On October 19-20, 2017 the JRIG team traveled to Makati to meet other Making All Voices Count (MAVC) grantees in the Philippines. All of the grantees shared their experiences adapting to change while implementing their projects. Thirteen organizations were provided support through the MAVC Program. As a result of this gathering, we were able to identify opportunities on how to sustain our Universities and Knowledge Partnerships for Open Government project.
De La Salle University (DLSU) and Central Philippine University (CPU) Present Online Knowledge Portals
On August 22, 2017 representatives from Iloilo City's civil society organizations met at Central Philippine University to provide feedback on the online knowledge portals developed by DLSU's Jesse Robredo Institute of Governance (JRIG) and CPU's Center for Local Governance and Indigenous Peoples Studies (CLGIPS). After CLGIPS presented the infographics that they developed regarding Iloilo City's budget, JRIG presented their Knowledge Hub for Open Government. A fruitful workshop followed where participants shared their opinions on how to improve the online portals.
Transparency and Accountability Portal Launching and Training in Naga City
On August 17, 2017, the Institute and Ateneo de Naga University's Center for Local Governance (CLG) hosted their second workshop on Knowledge Partnerships for Open Government. The event was attended by representatives of local civil society organizations from Naga City. CLG developed infographics relating to the 2017 Local Government Unit Naga Budget for Special Purpose Appropriation and presented them to participants to solicit their feedback. Understanding the City Development Budget and AIP in Cagayan de Oro City
On August 11, 2017, Xavier University (XU) - Ateneo de Cagayan invited CSO representatives to present their online knowledge portal. Our Institute presented the Open Government Partnership and its importance in promoting participatory governance. In addition, XU's Governance and Leadership Institute developed a series of infographics to simplify the City Development Budget and 2017 Annual Investment Plan. Central Philippine University Hosts Knowledge Workshop
Over 25 local civil society organizations (CSOs) from Iloilo City were invited to attend a Knowledge Workshop to discuss how universities can provide resources to the community. The Center for Local Governance and Indigenous Peoples Studies (CLGIPS) from Central Philippine University (CPU) hosted the workshop. In addition to CSOs, the event was attended by university faculty and local government. CSO participants expressed how it is important to not only be able to access local government data but also present the information in a manner that is more easily understood. As a result of this workshop, CLGIPS will be developing infographics of Iloilo City's annual investment plan. These infographics will be presented to the CSO participants in August in a Knowledge Exchange activity where CLGIPS will be welcoming feedback on the development of our online Knowledge Portal.
