The Long March to Transparency

On October 24, 2017, Stratbase ADRi hosted a Special Presentation in Makati City. Representatives from academe, government, and civil society gathered to engage in dialogue about the efforts towards Freedom of Information in the Philippines. Dr. Francisco A. Magno, Director of DLSU-JRIG and Trustee of Stratbase ADR Institute, presented his monograph titled, "The Long March to Transparency: Institutionalizing FOI in the Philippines." Dr. Ronald Mendoza, Dean of the Ateneo School of Government, and Dr. Segundo Romero, Professorial Lecturer of the Development Studies Program at Ateneo de Manila University, led the discussion moderated by Richard Javad Heydarian, GMA Network Resident Political Analyst.

As a result of the event, participants were able to share some of their concerns and highlight accomplishments regarding FOI. The monograph shares the view that transparency has public value as a tool in fostering participation, promoting human rights, accountability, and leveling the playing field in business.
